New cv axle from napa came with this ring along with the nut. Didn't see it on the previous axle I took out. Where does it go?

Universal cv axle maybe? It might not even be for the Tacoma, I've never known them to have a Ring like that

It won't go past the splines so I'm guessing it's a washer of some sort that goes between the axle nut and the outside of the hub.

Can't get the new axle in without taking off the sway bar end link. Took the nut off the dog bone. Do I just hammer the threaded portion I can see exposed?

Not sure, but pretty sure it doesn't belong with tacoma, all mine had (& others I've seen) is Axle nut (looks like giant aircraft type , washered already)& the light weight outer stake IIRC

NEVER pound on the threaded end unless you have a nut run down so it just sticks above the threaded end, even then be careful as hell, did you unbolt the lower ball joint ? makes swinging the spindle around for axle fitting a breeze..

Only major differences are the new one came with the dust shields at both ends where the old one is a reman cheap unit that didn't have them. Lengths of splines as well as diameter of shaft and splines is the same. Even put the old nut on the new axle and it's the same size.

Might have been the pic, get the splines lined up then give it a strong quick push in. Then send another pic of how far off it is

I tested it by pulling on it. Feels like the C flip has engaged. I can pull it out MAYBE 1/8" befor it don't come out any more.

Got it 90% done but when I tapped out the dog bone I boogered up the threads. Now I know to raise the control arm to take pressure off it. Looks like I'll be trying to get the dog bone reattached to the lower control arm for awhile
