I was getting all my wires ran for my CB today and then i thought, I dont use my cig lighter for anything, why not just cut to connector off and wire the CB to the cig lighter. this way i can accidentally leave the CB on either because the cig lighter only works with the ignition. any thoughts, good idea or not?

For a temporary set up it will work ok. If you want maximum performance wire it to the battery.

Wiring it directly to your battery is a better option.

If you don't, you'll get more interference from the rest of the electrical system that it has to go through.

If you wanted to remove the CB for whatever reason, it makes it easier to unhook. You will have more interference with it hooked there. The more pure the power the better.

It's crazy how easy it is to get interference. I had my power originally going to the same exact spot I had power going to the relay for my hid's and when I turned The cb and the lights on I got so much interference.

You can pull 10 amps+ from a cig lighter (or whatever fuse you have in there), but the noise suppression is not there. Eventually they will figure out how to filter those ports better due to personal plug in stuff getting more picky and people crying, car fires, meltdowns, ect.

Yup, a separate path or research inline noise suppression filters. Talk to the truck stop/cb shop tech dude(ha) for his opinion if you still decide on that cig lighter route.

Hell, I used one for many years and could talk for 10 miles with a tuned shortie Firestick and a old Uniden. This was from a cig lighter port. A tiny bit of wave sing with the noise limiter switched off, but negligible. Not so interested on how it sounds on my end because I can decipher that stuff if needed, but want clear transmission with no complaints.

I ran a 14g power and ground double insulated wire straight from the battery across the fire wall into the cab and then under the glove box and then to the cb location. My only concern after reading this is that im running the wire next to my power wire for my amp. And then my coax is next to a 14g power wire. But my cb should be here today so ill finally be able to hook it up and see how it all plays out
