This is my first thread on tacoma world.

I installed an autodimming mirror into a 3rd generation 4runner and recently installed it to a 1st generation tacoma.

Installation was simple and I will include all the steps I took for the installation.

I also have several auto-dimming mirrors and the sensor (used in this installation) for sale.

Items required: Mirror, Sensor, mirror mount button ($4 at any auto parts store) wires (1 roll from Walmart is sufficient), electrical tape, cable ties.

    1) Disconnect the ground terminal
    2) remove the driver side grab handle on the pillar
    3) Using a flat screwdriver lift the pillar cover (only on the two locations shown in the picture).
    4) Lift up the pillar cover (note the locking tab on the bottom of the cover)
    5) lift the reading lamp cover by inserting a flat screw driver from the back.
    6) unscrew the 4-philips bolts and lower the unit.
    7) remove the wire plug
    8) Run 3 wires from the opening of the roof to the driver side pillar
    9) one wire should run to the fuse box by the driver's knee.
    10) other two wires must run through the rubber grommet to the front lower turn signal area (to mount the sensor).
    11) Attach one (about 8 inches long) to the negative wire in the mirror
    12) remove the mirror mounted into the reading lamp (watch for the 3-tiny parts that comes lose)
    13) locate the center and mark the windshield from outside with a sticker or a marker.
    14) glue the mirror mount button (read instructions on the mirror mount button packet). Let it dry 24 hours before mounting the mirror
    15) Run the mirror wire plug through the opening in the reading lamp base.
    16) connect the 12V power wire to a fuse (that gives 12V only when the ignition is on- otherwise the mirror will be on even without the key in the ignition)
    17) mount the reading lamp base to the roof and leave enough wire length to attach to the back of the mirror.
    18) put everything back on.
    19) attach the temperature sensor to the wires pulled to the front of the truck.
    20) Use a cable tie to mount the sensor (not closer to the radiator/ac condenser)
    21) mount the mirror
    22) reconnect the ground terminal
    23) calibrate the mirror based on the zone you live in according to the following link

    That is all.

Great write up and pictures. Keep these mirrors in stock. Wouldn't mind trying to add this to my 95 taco.
