Welcome! These trucks are known to go 300k+ with no major problems, provided maintainance is kept up. It looks like someone took care of the truck. I got a 99 ex cab prerunner v6 for $5900 w/ 147k on the clock, and the paint looks like crap. I think you got a decent deal. Just remember older vehicles small stuff will start to creep up. Stuff ages and dry rots. Check an see of the timing belt and water pump were done. That would be the major thing at your mileage. Your suspension may be all worn out, I know mine is. Major components are known to last forever, but small stuff and maintenance will creep up

Btw, make sure to service your paint job! Your color is the same as mine used to be, and as you can see from my sig pic, without proper care that color fades

Also I'll let you know on some of the known weak points of the first gen. Make sure your frame is good, they were known to rust out bad. The rear leaf springs suck, they're weak and known to break. The TRD shocks like you should have(I have too) are terrible shocks. And with you being a TRD, if you have the v6, you should have the e-locker. That rear end is known not to be a very strong rear end, not as strong as the one under my truck. You should be fine for a daily driver/weekend warrior, just don't abuse it.

The frame is rust free. And truthfully I've looked over the truck a lot it looks like it never got off pavement to me came from a older couple

They are great trucks. I imagine you'll see flawless miles. If you plan to offroad at all, the TRD prerunners are really capable trucks. They won't get you everywhere a 4wd can go, but the locker and a good set of offroad tires(especially aired down)will get you a lot of places. I keep up on trails with 4x4s all day. My limiting factor is how crappy my shocks are!

Check out my build page, I should have some videos of what I've done with my prerunner. Granted everytime I've been stuck, 4wd would have got me out lol. But it was on places I knew I shouldn't have even tried haha

Seems like a great deal to me. Like already stated, rusty frame is number 1 bad issue. Must have been in good environment. Leaf springs tend to go negative arch. If you will be carrying much weight might be worth addressing. Back bumper is in good shape also? These trucks are great in the hunting woods. I was able to go anywhere I wanted this year in 12 inches of snow.:) Congrats and welcome to the site.

Quick question I just went on a drive and had cruise on and going up hill it seemed to kick down almost to high of rpms? Sounded really loud but was only at 4,000 is it normal or not? Onle happens in cruise control.

My 4-runner with 3.4 auto trans used to do that. Never saw any problems. I would turn ect. button on when I knew I was on road that was hilly. It tends to downshift less.

The elocker(also known as 8.0) under the TRD tacomas is known to not be as strong as the open diff(8.4). The internal design of the 8.4 makes it a tougher axle to abuse, suck as heavy towing, large tires, and heavy wheeling. My buddy ran 35s on his stock 8.4 open diff(and beat the hell out of it), they suggest not to run 35s on the elocker cause it doesn't handle that stress well

If you never got bigger tires or did super aggressive wheeling the elocker diff lasts forever. But for extreme wheelin with big tires, they use the 8.4 and install ARB air lockers

I've just picked up the info from research on here, and from a group I wheel with. We've had 2 elockers blow up. I know of one of the differences, just not sure how to explain it. I'm not an expert on the internals of differentials. If you search about the 2 differentials, you will find people who do heavy work or wheeling, prefer the 8.4 cause of the strength

You can say what you want but I've done the research when I put in my LSD, cause originally I wanted to swap in a elocker axle. I was urged by a lot of people to keep the 8.4. I also have first hand account of watching a couple e-lockers blow up, and have read of the design differences that make the 8.4 stronger then the 8.0 elocker. And the coils may be bad, but the TRD bilsteins are still horrible shocks. They have a terrible valving design
