I've got a leak and after researching I think it's my power steering rack seal... I went completely dry of power steering fluid last night and filled it up and checked it today and am empty again!! This is where I think it's coming from and I've seen that some people have had to buy the whole new rack but it doesn't seem like my boots are messed up? My power steering is completely out and I'm wondering if it'll be fine again if I just get a new seal. Thanks

Is there a puddle of fluid on the floor?
Are your steering rack bellows dry?
When the seals inside the rack go bad I've seen that it is possible to replace them. I've also been told that when the seals go bad then its time for a new rack. There are special tools needed to replace the seals, not sure exactly which ones. Hopefully its an easy fix.

No not a big puddle of fluid coming out at all but it's always wet like that after I drive it. I sure hope I don't need to replace the rack

Looks like you need a new rack.

Would that mean my power steering pump needs to be replaced?

Both of my boots are swollen up and hard as can be. They seem like they might bust. Has anyone had this happen to them

Pretty much stock with some crap welded to it.

New rack! If the power steering pump is run dry then it could damage the pump.

Grey wire and keyless entry. I like stock.
Take a knife and put a slit somwhere in the boot so the fluid can drain out. If it blows, nothing bad will come of it beside all the other stuff down there getting covered in fluid. Not a big deal.

Yep, the inner seals are gone. Hit a Junkyard. From what I understand, it does not matter if it's a 2.7 or a 3.4, just try and get the same year and take the LBJ's with ya.

I have this off 95.5. Boots good no sign of leakage. Not sure if it works on 2000 taco though. Only rack and tie rods left. [IMG]
