Ok guys I want to put a roof rack on my '97 ex cab. I'm going back and forth on how I want to mount it, drill the cab for Control Towers or Q Towers with a stretch kit. How have you guys mounted yours and what do you recommend? Let's see some pics!

I drilled holes in my roof. I'd recommend dropping the headliner and using bolts, the roof is too thin for sheetmetal screws

I drilled in the roof, Dont have any leaks so far, but make sure to space them evenly. Or the mounts may not line up.

    Thanks man!

OP you can always sell it :D

As Tim mentioned I used factory T4R tracks and crossbars on mine as well as a few other trucks and its sorta been picked up as of lately by some members and it only cost me around $25!

I soon changed out the factory crossbars as they weren't wide enough to fit with my factory sunroof so I made some from 1" OD steel tubing that support over 350# per crossbar though id never put that much weight up there.

Here are a few pics just in case you decide not to use the Yakima kind and mine looks very similar to Yakima if a wind deflector was added up front but I plan to sometime put a single row 40" led bar there

And I also mounted side facing lights to the tracks

Dude your truck looks sick! I'm gonna put the Yakima rack on for now that way I wont have to drill the cab. If the need for a more heavy duty rack comes in the future I might do what you did.

Thanks man! It was a tad un easy to drill 8 holes into the roof but it hasn't leaked as of yet and has held up great & it made it much easier to cut all the IFS out from under there as well! Id say the roof would collapse before the rack itself. I got mine from a junkyard and gave the $20, the other $5-$8 was for new hex bolts/nuts/washers.

I have a Yakima Rack w/Q-Towers, Deflector & Rage Cage.
The rack has migrated from a Tundra to a VW New Beetle to my Taco.
