So I replaced the half shafts a few weeks ago. Options are:

1: Send them back for the core charge? $75/axle minus shipping.

2: Have a local shop rebuild them here and keep for spares.

3: same as two but opt to resell them to somebody in need and avoid 40 in shipping.

4: Sell to someone as is. They can rebuild themselves or have a shop they know/trust do it.

Shipping them is about $40. It took 10 years and 130k mi to need replacements, so keeping them may not be the way to go. I don't wheel that often.

#4 may be good if I can save shipping. Just want the most $ back, and help someone in the process.

You've gotta weigh your options for best $$ results.

Opt #4 locally to avoid shipping - How much will you sell them for AND is someone willing to pay that much?

Nobody is gonna pay $$ plus $40 to ship. You'd probably get more money sending them back as a core charge and only net $35.

    Other than that....

If you're not concerned about making a profit - you can always help someone out by FREE. Pickup or "you pay shipping'.

Local PU would be ok. I don't want a profit just to save shipping $. Even if we split shipping we both win. I really don't think I want to hold onto them, and if I have them rebuilt, I may lose money if someone can do it cheaper and doesn't want to pay. Soooo I guess that's it.

I may go to the FS section and ask Core plus split shipping.

Keep them. Rebuild them. Save them for when your chinese built vatozone axles break.

I'd love nothing more than to save a few bucks even waaaay down the road, and keep these. But I'm in Texas and am not too hard on the truck. In no way do I do anything that would break an axle around here.
I got OEM rebuilds from CVJ axles in Denver. They only use/rebuild OEM cores. Research here, coupled with my experience with them suggests that they do quality work, and so far I am satisfied. If I didn't trust CVJ, I would have gone factory new.

I've found that OEM replacements may be a tad more $, the fact that they have lasted this long and the hatred for doing work twice makes it worth sticking with Toyota parts.

The only aftermarket items on my truck are UCA's and my lift. :)

I see. I'd throw them on the classifieds, then. Priced around $100 for the set, they'll make a quick sale and will be good trail spares for anyone that wheels their IFS.
