In the below thread, this guy compares different shocks to pick out the best fit for his build. If anyone wants to veer away from the normal vehicle specific shocks, this is a decent read.

For his 4runner I he pics Tundra 5100 shocks for the front and GMC 5100's for his rear.

Funny thing is he ended up getting rid of both the Tundra's and Chevy's and went with Radflo I believe. He definitely analyzed everything he did pretty intensely.

Ive always felt the Tacoma shock valving was a bit soft for the Eibach 620's and wanted to look at the Tundra shocks. He's got some good info to do some compare and contrast.

I've had the Tundra and Tacoma 5100's, but with different coils, so I'm not sure how relevant it is. The Tacoma's felt good, but a bit soft even with the Eibach's. I had the Tundra 5100's with TRD Tundra coils and I felt planted and firm, but had a good amount of body roll. Could have been due to the 595 lb Tundra coils, but I liked the 5100's. Also the Tundra shocks are much more robust, especially the lower mount. I've seen both break, but liked that on a lifted application the lower mount was larger.

Now I compare both of these set ups to my current FOX 2.5's and there is no contest. The FOX's are so much smoother than both of them. That's to be expected, but coming from the 5100/Eibach to FOX's it really is a HUGE difference. There is a reason you're paying so much for coilovers. Just thought I'd throw that into the mix since I've had experience with all three.

Yeah, $1000+ for front suspension is a bit much for even me to justify. I dont wheel that hard :p. I like the extra travel with the Tundra 5100's too but not sure if I will use it, mostly up travel :notsure:

King coilovers were hands down the best upgrade I did to my truck. I had tundra 5100s and tundra coils on my old truck and it was far too stiff. Hated it. If I was doing it again and I had to pick between a supercharger and coilovers, I would do coilovers. It is a huge difference in quality and enjoyment of driving.

I like the Tundra shock setup because you can get bilsteins in almost any valving you'd want (150/50, 170/60, 180/75, 255/70, 275/78, 360/80) and get the benefit of the added length and larger shock body for heat dissipation. For as cheap as they are, they work pretty well!

I completely understand, but I got lucky and after some wheeling and dealing with parts and finding my FOX's on craigslist brand new, they ended up costing me nothing. I got extremely lucky, but now my rear shocks feel like crap. Time to start saving.

Well I don't know if I'd go that far...haha. I love my coilovers, but the SC is pretty freaking awesome.

    Never tried them :notsure:

Just liked how this guy broke down some different options; helped me compare the Tacoma's and Tundra's and make an informed decision. If i have the money, Icon coil overs would be my next upgrade, but as it sits right now, my current shocks some miles on them and need to be replaced. Looks like Ill be getting Tundra shocks next.
