Hi, thank you for viewing my thread. I replaced my steering rack with a remanufactured one from my local parts store and it didn't last 6 months. When I asked Toyota about there racks they said that they are also remanufactured and since my truck is an 01 it would be hard to find a new rack for it. I don't want to put another remanufactured rack in my truck and have to replace it again. Does anyone know where I can get a good new rack that can take a beating? I'm off road everyday for work and need something that can withstand abuse. Thanks.

they are all reman racks, its just the quality of reman at this point. I put a Safari LTD rack in my truck 6 months ago and its great. cost me right at $500 but they claim its a beefed up rack and it comes with a 2 year warranty

For the record, Toyota dealers here and there have been saying "can only get re-mans" for years. They are lying, ignorant or both. My guess is they probably just get a better margin on the re-mans.
A brand new OEM rack is $548.46 complete with inner tie rods, not much more than Safari wants for a Chinese knock off.
These are the later model units (01-up) with the upgraded guide assembly that lasts significantly longer.
Part #44250-35042 fits 95-04 and is in stock at Camelback right now.

Also check out CVJ axles in Denver. They remanufacturer only OEM parts. I just got my CV axles from them and saw they also do steering racks when I was at their shop. Still remanufacturer, but they have a pretty good reputation for their axle work.

Hey, I decided to go with the new OEM from camelback. It's in the mail. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
