Going to have my brother-in-law go look at this truck tomorrow. I don't believe it could be a TRD though, as I do not believe it was an option until 1998. I really like the look of this truck, any tips to look for other than frame rust in the back. does it seem overpriced? http://kenai.craigslist.org/cto/4526809415.html
    TIA

Correct. TRD packages started in 1998, and as far as I can tell it looks to be worth checking out with the mods, and OBO pricing, may be a keeper.

$8500 for that rig is WAY too much in my opinion...

Asking price on craigslist is usually always high.. Show up with cash and its usually a different story.. Price is just what he would like to get, and with obo its not hard to work a deal.. I saw a guy on the 4runner forum ask if $9xxx was too high for his 2wd 4runner and we all said yes, he had it on craigslist over $9k and sold it the same night for $7xxx.. Just saying I wouldn't let the price detour you from checking it out or making what you feel is a legit offer.

I paid $8,000 for mine, but it's a 1998 4wd SR5 TRD, but an automatic, and it was garage kept with 98,xxx miles. 192,xxx miles is quite a bit, but then again it's a yota. Seems to be a nice truck, just pay what you think it's worth, and give the seller your point of view on why the price should be lower

Ha. I saw this truck parked on the Homer spit this weekend. Looks pretty clean to me considering the age. Didn't look at the frame though. I was admiring his elite bumper lol. I think 8500 is still high but what do I know?

It's a good looking truck. Just be sure to check out the body panels... they look like they are off of a '98 or '99 with the small OEM flares. And, of course, check out the frame. As long as the truck hasn't been in some sort of accident and doesn't have any frame rust issues, I'd throw him an offer at it. Like everyone else said $8500 is a bit high, but that's what haggling is for.

I saw this truck parked on the spit last weekend and walked over to check it out. Looks like a nice truck that was taken care of. Miles are a bit high, but it it was taken care of properly it could be worth an offer in the $7000 range. Make sure to check out the underside of the truck for leaks, cleanliness, and rust!

those are also the 01-04 flares so looks like he wanted to keep this. only thing is didn't 95-97 have 235/75-15 tires? what gears are in it and make sure to drive it (obviously)

I'm sure the Poor guy is still wondering what hit him. It wasn't really fair of me to send my wife down there. but I am away at work. I'm afraid my son is going to be ransacking it for parts before I get home next week. He has the 99 trd. The 2005's my wife's.
Thanks to all for your advice and happy independence day!
