egr

I have a 1996 Tacoma with a 2.7 in it and the check engine light is on so I got the code read and it say exhaust gas flow..and people tell me it is the get valve and people tell me it's the get temp sensor..can some one help me...I took her off and the pipe going to the manifold and cleaned them and I'm also getting vacuum to there and the egr open and closes so I don't know what to do...has anyone else had this prob....is it the sensor. Or the temp sencor...and is it still safe to drive??? Please help

 

The EGR Valve has to do with emssions. So if it is messed up, it wont affect the performance of the truck. It will however trip the CEL if it is bad. Does your truck run any different?

 

The truck seems to run fine I would liked it fixed and light off but don't know what part to put on

 

There are nine possible trouble codes for the EGR system (P0400 - P0408).
Which one is it?

 

Hey man it's reading a p0402 excessive flow

 

On my '99 2.7, I had a P0401 (insufficient flow), and it turned out to be the EGR gas temp sensor (which senses the amount of exhaust flow into the intake). This was after I "threw a part at it", and replaced the EGR modulator to no avail.

For the P0402, my 1999 FSM points to 5 possible causes:
- EGR valve stuck open ( but this would also cause a rough idle )
- EGR VSV malfunction
- "open in VSV circuit for EGR" ( not sure what this means exactly )
- short in EGR gas temp. sensor circuit
- ECM (pray its not this)

 

Try a new gas cap or maybe it's the Vapor Canister Purge switch. They seem to go out.

BTW, ignore post #7, unless you are also having an issue with the EVAP system. Your issue is with the EGR system.

 

The truck runs like a top tho...I had someone tell me the get was hung open Idk know tho will his mess up my truck
