Im about one more noise away from selling my truck. so when i pull in or out of my driveway (i have a big curb) i get a clunk out of my rear end. at first i thought it was a rear wheel bearings because the noise started right when i noticed my bearings going bad. But now that i had the bearings re done by toyota i have a feeling thats not the issue.

what else could be causing a solid sounding clunking noise when the rear tires drive up or down a curb?

I just turn up the tunes--Geeze-its a truck!
    mine is 11 years old.
It is not a CAR--if you want a car-get one!
Noises that are problems will become evident prior to failure.
Just think that it is talking to you!
Noise noise noise- means-"Check this please!"

what have you checked so far?...

could be springs, shocks, or driveline problems......not only that, it is a first gen which means it has some years on her...are you the original owner? did the truck come from the Northern climes before it hit Florida?

it took me some time to chase down all noises in mine after I bought it used, it takes awhile sometimes...and a lot of climbing underneath and figuring it out...

checked the u-bolts and the exhaust it close to the leaf but when i make it hit the leaf it is a completely different sound, and ive been running this setup for over a year and never heard the sound until two weeks ago.

they are getting older, ive dumped so much money into it the past month or so.

i know it makes noises, i turn up the radio for a week and if the noise is still there then i check it out. in this case i cant turn up the radio because the noise is so loud and i can feel it in my seat when it happens.

I'll guess carrier bearing is toast.

I was thinking the carrier bearing but there's no issues when I'm actually driving. But there is a lot of up and down play in it if I push up on the drive shaft.

Bed isn't empty but nothing that would cause that much noise, mainly bottles and ratchet straps.

And I don't expect it to ride like a lexus, but I know when something isn't right.

Maybe you got a broken leaf. I would inspect that plus rear shocks. Stock springs will break.

Ya, there shouldn't be "lots" of up and down play in the driveshaft.

Ask somebody capable to observe the rear end when you go over that curb shoulder or you check it with a friend driving.
What you will see and hear should narrow things down real quick.

It's a 1st Gen Tacoma, things are going to wear out, noises happen:(. Mine is babied, never seen a dirt road and I'm getting noises all of the time. They don't stay new forever no matter what. If you have lifted or modified your truck I would say the chances of new noises are higher but that's my opinion.
