Hey all. Haven't been able to find anything on this from my searching so i figured I would just ask. My driver's side door seems to be very loose and by that I mean it doesn't want to stay open. If anything, it wants to close itself all the time now, and its more of a recent problem I've been noticing. If I am on any sort of slight *SLIGHT* downhill grade, the door will close. If there is a breeze that couldn't even blow a piece of paper around, it will close. I wouldn't care so much if i didn't have to get things from my cab from work all the time and what's happening is i go in the driver's side door and reach over to the passenger's side, and the door will come closed from full open and close on my leg, which feels fantastic as I'm sure you could guess.

Is there a fix for this to help keep it open? I know there is the black plastic thing that is what creates the positive stops that holds the door open and im sure that being worn out is the problem but is still really annoying and I have no idea where to find that part or how to service it.

    2004 regular cab, 160,000 miles

Unfortunately, your door needs some professional help. That "black plastic thing" is known as a check strap and it sounds like the sheetmetal that it bolts to inside the door itself has broken from years of flexing. This is a common issue with older import vehicles because of the thinner metals used. I'd bet that before it let go completely it was clicking every time the door opened and closed...
It needs to be beefed up inside with additional steel and welded back together but sometimes even this will only last a year or two

Does the passenger door stay open? You probably just need a new door check, checker. They hold door open, so they can wear out.GL

Is it something as simple as the nuts have fallen off on the door side?
