Hi my truck is a 1998 tacoma extended can 3.4 5 speed and my buddy has an 01 double cab 3.4 auto both trucks have same gear ratios and are 4x4. Both open diffs. My buddy wants to buy mine out of my 98 and put in his 01 (his is blown) so what I'm wondering is will they work? 98 to 01 double cab. I am out an 02 locker in mine complete rear ends from drum to drum

As long as you're sure they have the same gear ratios (probably 4.10:1) they'll swap no problem. In fact, the rear differential carrier is the same from 1995.5 to 2014 - I have the carrier from a 2012 in my 2002. The only difference is the drive shaft mounting flange, which is an easy swap.
