anyone know about auto trans compatibility between years?

hey guys, does anyone know what years the auto trans is compatible? I have an 04 auto trans from a 3.4 and need to know if it will work in an 01 or 02.

 

not 100%, but i think you need an 03/04 trans.. difference with throttle by wire or something

 

TacomaTaco2 is right. 03-04 'lost' the mechanical kick down down cable. That alone stopped me from using an 03 tranny performing my 4x4 conversion (from 98 Prerunner)...

 

That's a shame. I wonder how difficult to swap the kick down cable from the old trans? Or is that not possible or practical?

 

Anything is possible I guess... Just like swapping tail shafts and cones from a 4x4 trans to the prerunner trans, someone has to be the first. IMO there is probably enough similarity between the two trannys to accomplish.
