I have a 2001 Tacoma 4cyl, 5speed a standard 5 lug truck not a prerunner. This weekend I took trip about 300 miles round trip. On the way down the truck shifted fine with know problems. Then yesterday running around town the truck jumped out of 4th gear a fear times and i really didn't think to much about it, I felt just didn't get it into gear good enough. So this morning when i left to come home as soon as I shifted into 4th it jumped out and did it every time i shifted into 4th. When shifting to 4th it doesn't fill like its fully engaged into gear. It probably jumped out of gear a dozen times or more. So later while driving home I would down shift into 4th and now the engagement fills normal and the rest of the way home it never jumped out of gear again, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th all shift fine with no problems. So has anyone experience this or got some idea of what going on.

maybe start with the shifter seat and bushing on the bottom end of the shift lever. My taco wouldn't go into reverse when I got it and replacing these made her shift like new

I believe your right, because when it did jump out of gear it just didn't fill like it went into gear. I'll take a look at it, thanks again.

It's fixed I replaced the upper and lower bushing on the shift lever. The upper bushing was all to pieces I had to vacum the pieces out, I don't how I was able to shift the trans. It's shifts like a new tranny. Thanks for all the help.
