Had an offer to trade my Tacoma for a Wrangler. What do you think?

I'm very familiar with jeeps and the aftermarket. This was my Jeep prior to my Tacoma. Loved this Jeep!

What is the book value of each vehicle? And don't use KBB as your only source... They rated my truck 13K and I know it is worth well over that. 2007 Tacoma Great Condition 95K miles.

Don't trade. You can sell and buy a better jeep for the money you can get from your truck. Maybe a trade + $$$ :notsure:

Also be warry of the early Fuel injection 4.0's. The carbs are great and the late FI's are ok. The early FI's suck.

Do you consider a ten year old motor (at the time that TJ was built) based very closely on the 258 an early FI motor?

Being a former Jeep owner I wouldn't make that trade. While it is true that the 4.0 is a decent motor they still had their issues and most required a fair amount of attention around 150K. Not to mention that the rest of the Jeep is pretty much ready fo the scrap pile at that point.

Keep the Taco or sell it outright. Don't get yourself into that mess with an old jeep. I don't know what Taco's are selling for in your area but 03 TRD OR like mine are selling inthe 13/14K range around here regardless of mileage. They're more expensive than new 2nd gen trucks.

Ultimately do what you want. I personally wouldn't make the trade just because if I had a jeep I'd wish it was an 1970 something FJ40.

Is the trade for you or for your boys? Granted, it depends on how old they are and where they're headed, but...

If it was for me, personally, I'd keep the truck.

    *but*

When I was in high school, I really really wanted a jeep - I just could never afford one. One of my friends had an one and we had a lot of fun in that thing. Good times.

    *but*

By the time I graduated and went off to college, I really wanted a truck/suv. I drove an 85 Camry then, and moving my junk back and forth from school to home and back over break was like playing tetris with every cubic inch of space in that car.

    just something to noodle over

    I'm probably the wrong guy to ask because I own a 4wd Tacoma & a 4wd Wrangler.
I will say this, A Jeep can be a fun vehicle but it's a poor substitute for a pickup truck.
The OP said "trade" so for him it's Jeep or truck NOT Jeep and truck.
Unless he has a need for 4wd vehicle; a truck, even a 2wd truck, is a far more practical vehicle.
The Jeep 4.0L six is one of the best engines I've ever seen and many of them will go 300K. However the Toyota 4 cylinders are equally as bulletproof and durable.
Jeeps can be a lot of fun but as a primary vehicle they can be a little hard to live with. They suck fuel, lack storage/payload space, are not fun to drive at highway speeds for long distances and are difficult to climb in and out of. However Jeeps are compact off road machines, are fairly easy to work on and are relatively inexpensive "convertibles".
If I had a choice for a daily driver I'd stick with the truck.

I had/have both, Jeep and Tacoma. Never had any major issue with both of them, Jeep never let me down and everything worked, and real easy to work on...

I would just make sure you don't lose out on the trade. Compare both values, if they are even or you come out ahead, trade if you like.

Got the wife a 96 grand cherokee before the 4 runner she has now. Biggest POS ever. well almost but close enough. I lost my ass on that vehicle pretty good though. I did like the 4.0 I6 but past that hated it. Anything electrical in it was hit or miss on working. Replaced ECU twice and sold it after the 2nd time.

As for the trade it's a tough call. How bad do you want/need 4wd? That's the only reason I see to trade in your situation. You'll definitely be loosing some reliability. How much I'm not sure. Can you afford to sell your current taco and get a 4wd? Take the doors off and close enough right?
