Alrighty so a few weeks ago i had the truck box loaded and a 5000 pound trailer on the back flying down the highway... Went over some rough railroad tracks and all the sudden WHAAAAAAAA .. first i though the headers broke. Upon further inspection, the cat broke right at the rear flange....
So i tried welding some brackets on there, wired some mesh on there and coated it with exhaust repair putty. Worked for about 2 days until it started to sound like a straight piped v8(someone actully asked me if it had a v8)...
So i went online and ordered a Borsal Aftermarket Catalytic converter...paid 298 shipped! Specifically said it was for a 2001 Tacoma 3.4l
So anyways after battling ups and finally getting my cat today i started to work on it. Removed the old cat ..what a pain in the ass. anyways upon compairing the two i noticed that it was about 6" shorter then the factory toyota one...?

So my genius idea is to cut the flange off inbetwen the second 02 and the flange and weld in an extension...anyone think this is doable?
am i crazy... any other ideas?

    I had a feeling....lol

I would try to fix it myself and if it doesn't work take it somewhere. Exhaust is a bitch to weld though. What's the worst that could happen.

Yeah I thought maybe the size could be cause for concern. Are you gonna return it if you don't use it? The worst thing would be a thrown code, too much unburnt fuel in the exhaust or something like that. Shouldn't cause problems though.

I really can't say for sure. 1st gens are a different animal.

thats all i needed to hear! I am wonering now if i should maybe put a flex section in there?? i think thats why it broke in the first place. there no where for it to flex. All my 3sgte motors have a flex pipe in them for this exact reason
