Well, I've been looking for multiple months for a decently priced Tacoma. I've checked out some dogs, and a few good ones... only to find, the owner never really had a title for it (financing). Tacomas sure are expensive in NC. Anyway, I was looking around and I saw a few 4runners. It seems a little more practical, since it has 4 doors. I'd really like some honest opinions on the matter. I can get a 4runner for quite a bit cheaper than I can a taco.

    Thanks!

If you need four doors the t4r will be much cheaper than a double cab taco. I was looking for 4wd and elocker, runners with same miles were thousands cheaper than a similar Tacoma. I went from first gen taco access cab to third gen runner and love it. A small trailer for when you need to hall and you are good to go.

Righto. I'd like to go for a tacoma if i could, but at the end of the day it's about how much I have to spend. A pickup bed sure is nice for quite a few tasks, so I'm still looking at both.

is this going to be wheeled through tight trails, if so buy the tacoma. otherwise go with the fourrunner. the extra room is amazing. i have a 97 lx450(lexus landcruiser) and a 2001 tacoma for wheeling. the bigger vehicle is better for camping to.

I know how you feel about finding a 1st gen taco. I really wanted a double cab but couldn't find one, I then looked at a fj cruiser, but finally found an extra cab taco in great shape. It isn't 4 door but I still like it. I really wanted a tacoma, you need to ask yourself if you will be happy with your choice long term.

I was in the same spot you are in back in 2012 and ended up with my 97 4runner because of the price deference and I liked the one I got. I am very happy with the 4runner I don't regret not getting a tacoma one bit. My 4runner rides great has a ton of room and the back sets fold down flat and its very off road capable. So I guess it just comes down to what you really wanna have and wanna spend. Hope this helps!

I've had both. The 4runner is shorter so easier to maneuver, and the 4 door was nice. I had a 5 speed, which was cool in an SUV. The sunroof was a nice bonus over a taco, and the rear window goes down too. I haul a lot of stuff and I got irritated pretty quickly trying to put long things in since you either have to go between the hatch and the rear doors, or crawl inside to move the goods forward. Also I always heard the cargo rattling around back there. With a taco you don't hear what's in your bed most of the time. Ultimately the taco is better for me.

I have both, a 00 4runner and a 04 taco ext. cab, both v6 4x4's. The runner is nice for hauling camping gear, my dogs and trips to the grocery store. My taco with its manual trans and longer wheel base tows a lot better and gets better fuel mileage. I love both of them tho'. But for me the 4runner is more pratical with it's 4 doors and extra interior space.
