Yesterday I found out my heater doesn't work. Had my grandfather in the truck and it started raining. I had the A/C on, and he said it was a little too cold. I moved the temp to the white area so it wouldn't be as cold but it stayed the same. Kept moving it to the right until the thing was on full heat and it still came out cold. Guess its better to find out now, than when it gets cold. How can I fix this?

Check your coolant level. If your coolant is too low your heater core won't receive any coolant. You could also have a blockage as well.

So check the level. Even more important now since it has been changed. Maybe its leaked or not enough.

All look good. Is there something mechanical that could break with it?

Since you changed your coolant you could have air in the heater core. Open up the radiator cap, with engine cold, then start the truck and let it warm up. If the coolant starts dropping add coolant. Your thermostat could be stuck as well.

Did that test already. And wouldnt the truck not warm up if it was broken?

Not warming up of the truck cab but of the engine and coolant.

My guess would be the mechanical link to the heater core door is disconnected. Do you hear the door move while operating the temp control?

Did you have the heat on when you had the radiator cap off? You could also try squeezing the radiator hoses but it will make a mess with the cap off.

Under the hood against the upper part of the fire wall, behind the engine, is a valve with a cable attached to it. this controls the coolant flow through the heater core. I'll Bet your cable fell off.

I have the same problem. My problem is when I adjust the temp control it does not move that linkage that is pictured above.

Right now I have the linkage disconnected and have to manually pop the hood and adjust that linkage to control the temperature.

I've checked all fuses, and pulled the dash to check for loose wires, hoping someone will know what to do or has had this problem before and know how to fix.

I'm not familiar with the '01, mine has slide controls, not sure if yours is rotary, and the other end of the cable is attached to the temp control lever. You will have to take the center dash apart to see whats going on.

Did you try to turn the valve under the hood by hand? should turn fairly easy.

Yes its a rotary. And I detached the cable and the valve turns by itself. Temp control knob doesnt do anything

Well, at least you can turn the heat on when you need it, lol.
I'd start pulling the dash apart and see what's up with the other end of the cable.

Well I moved it, but it still came out cold. Could there be another problem?

    Hmm, trouble shooting here..
Does the dash control move the cable at all?
Is the arm on the valve stripped where the screw attaches it?
Was the engine warm when you tried it?

It's easy to just remove the valve, you won't lose much coolant as it's at the top of the system. Do it with a cold engine of course. See if it's opening and closing properly.
