I sold my 95.5 Tacoma to my neighbor a few years ago. He has enjoyed it quite a bit. It recently started with a problem that it will not go above 2500 RPM. It falls on its face with no power. He will shift up and it runs smooth until 2500 and falls off.

It runs good when cold and does this when it warms up.

He thinks it is fuel, I am thinking electrical. Any ideas?

It is all stock with a 5 speed.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Could be pinging as it heats up and load/RPM's increase from lots of carbon build up. When the truck sense a ping it drastically retards timing causing a huge lose of power.

Check out the Seafoam thread on how to seafoam your engine and clean out the carbon.

When was the fuel filter replaced?

First thing I thought of, as well. Classic symptom of plugged filter only letting enuf fuel thru for 2500 rpm. It should get worse over time.

I am not sure. He was asking which canister he saw was the fuel filter. He said there was 2 canisters in the engine compartment that looked like a fuel filter. I will take a look today to see what exactly he was referring to.

We will replace it hopefully today.
