Hey guys, my dad's stock radio has been acting strange lately. The power will be on (you can see the station numbers and stuff) but you won't hear anything. If you turn it on/off once in a while it starts working again. Checked the antennae, but haven't opened to look in the back yet. He just drives it to and from work everyday so nothing out of the ordinary. It's an 03' SC with 35k...should I have him take it into the dealer or would they charge for any possible repairs? Anyone had this happen before?

Sounds like the radio is on its last leg, I would check craigslist for a used stock radio, they go for very cheap when people upgrade, I got a spare radio for 30 bucks there :D

Assuming everything is stock equipment, sounds like the radio is going. You should be able to pick one up pretty cheap.

Is it a cd player too?...does that produce sound?....if nothing produces sound, or just one source plays, then its either the radio thats not outputing or a bad factory amplifier....most likely its the radio. I would look into getting one online or gettin an aftermarket radio...nothing special cd player like a basic JVC is 70 bucks at walmart and get a dash kit and harness for 20.

yeh its the stock radio that came with my 02 taco. i just removed it because i added a new alpine head unit. which i recently just removed for a newer apline head unit.
The old alpine headunit has a motorized faceplate and plays mp3 cds and what not. the stock tacoma radio is well... the big gray brick looking think. the only thing the alpine needs is wiring and a dash kit for installation
