rubbing noise from behind the behind the timing cover

I am fixing to buy a 1999 tacoma sr5 trd and there is a rubbing noise comeing from behind the timming cover do u guys have any idea what it could be?

like maybe signs of the water pump going out?

 

Welcome to TW. May be your timing belt/chain going out. Not sure which that year model truck has. Have you felt a loss of power? When my chain went out on my chevy, I had the ticking noise for a week or so. But decided to wait to make sure thats what it was before I tore the truck apart, when it goes out there will be no power and you should stop driving it asap. If thats what the problem is.

 

I had to edit the post i was going to buy the truck tommarow but i want to make sure its nothing serious first before i got it.

Its a 99 sr5 trd with 190k miles on it and they want 5k for it the way it is. I will try t find out if it has a loss of power
