is the fan clutch supposed to spin freely?

mine turns with a slight resistance (but not much) and it stops the second I stop pushing it trying to get it to spin. is this normal or is my clutch bad?

    so its probably ok then?

I just remember older cars and trucks it would free spin on those and make an extra revolution or so after you spin it, this one stops within 1/2" of when you stop pushing when you flick it

it doesn't feel hard or stiff to turn but its certainly not turning with any ease so I guess I need to find another Tacoma and see how that one spins because I think it should be looser then it is

Mine is the same. I'm not sure if its normal or what. I wish it spun more freely, maybe my truck wouldn't sound like a school bus. I have a new fan clutch I bought to see if it helps, just haven't got around to installing it.

well I new they had fluid in them but fluid isn't solid so I would think it should still move 2 or 3 inches when flicked trying to spin it shouldn't it?

A worn out fluid filled clutch will free spin. Resistance means it's in working order

ok thanks, lots of great people at this site and great info too

sounds like kigmob bought a fan clutch he didn't need and I was close to doing the same thing myself
