Hello, has anyone tried to install Focal 165's in the front doors without major modification? the speakers are 6.5 oversize of course....have I tried to contact Focal or the place I got them from? yes I have, I was just looking for some accomplished examples...thx I have a '96 ext cab 4x4 I was thinking about making a copy of the plastic speaker template in wood & make a spacer ring so the 6.5 will fit depth wise without bottoming out on the window rail. Bad design on toyota's part of course!

You will need an mdf spacer to mount a deeper speaker. 3/4" is pretty common.

I bought plastic adapters off ebay for about $15. Mounted tweeters on the cover for the mirror bolts.
