I'm looking around for an SC and for my 2004 V6 and was just trying to gauge how much I would expect to pay.

Also, what are some things to look out for when purchasing a used SC?

This is kind of what I was thinking.

Anything to look at to make sure it's legit and not a POS?

As always check that the nose drive doesn't show signs of oil leaks. Other than that there is no way to really tell what the guts look like other than pulling it apart or throwing it on a truck. If it's been heavily used you may want to factor a rebuild into your price.

There are two superchargers that were offered on the 1st gen tacomas. The 1st generation supercharger was gray, while the 2nd generation was black. Both will fit the 3.4L V6. Most I believe prefer the 2nd generation supercharger.

I saw one recently and it was gray so I guess it's from a 1st Gen. And it was almost $2000, which seems steep.

Also, is it true that if I do buy this and put it on my truck I'm always going to have to use Premium gas from now on?

I understand the budget concerns but, I just couldn't buy a used sc (unless I was familiar with the unit and maint, such as a buddy's). The investment and work is substantial enough to have piece of mind that it is not going to be issue in the future.
