Hi, What is a good brand of cv axles to get, I can,t afford the original parts at dealer. I seen the ones that fit online for $77.00 dollars a piece, they are made in China and imported by a company called surtrack. The model number is TO 8029, if someone knows of a good brand please respond. thanks in advance

If it were me... I'd pay the extra price and get a reman from CVJ axle. (in fact that's what I did) That is because I wheel fairly hard and don't want the headache of constantly breaking axles.

X2 on the reman. The dealer might also be able to rebuild the axles with OEM CV components at a lower cost than new OEM axles.

On 2nd gens, the OEM CV joint design can accommodate greater angles than aftermarket ones. So if you have extended-travel coilovers, aftermarket axles can bind at full droop. Not sure if it's the same on 1st gens.

I've had NAPA brand cv axles in my taco for probably 50k with 2-3" of lift up front and have yet to wear through the boot. It might happen tomorrow but hasn't yet. Napa has new and reman. I think the reman is ok but the new ones are definitely worth it. Cost me $100 each probably 4+ years ago. No clue what they are now.

Yes reman. axles. So cals got a great shop in garden grove called california axle supply. They ship and you can use same box to send back core axles.

Just stay away from a reman/ company called DTA, absolute biggest pieces of shit I've ever seen, mine lasted less than a month, let me re phrase that, I had a total of about 300 yards of 4x operation, & in less than a month the inner boots were torn, then their customer service wants to himhaw on a refund, no way was an exchange going to happen, the ones i got weren't even rebuilt !!

I called them and they quoted me this:

    1 Axle(one side) = $195.00 + Shipping
$95.00 Refund when they receive your old axle.

How are these compared to the OEM Axles?

Before going to the "best" one, what is your use? Is your rig a 4x4? If it is, are the hubs manual or ADD? I ask becuase if you don't have or don't do 4x4, then your use of the axles will be much less than a serious rock crawler. If you have a manual hub then the axles only spin when in 4x4 so again, their use will be limited.

Are you elevated at all, or stock height? Makes a big difference, as the higher you go, the more angle on the axle and more prone to boot tears and such.

That will let us know if those axles will be spinning much at all, and from there a good quality to cost brand can be suggested.

Good luck and welcome to Tacomaworld!

I want very good quality. It's my DD but once I get it dialed in the way I want it...I'll be taking it offroad more.

OK, good to know. But are the hubs manual or auto, as in ADD? If auto locking then the axles will be spinning all the time. If manual they will only spin when you lock the hubs. It matters in that you probably won't use them much if manual hubs, so as long as you account for high angle you will probably be fine with most brands. If auto hubs then they will spin all the time, so you will want to watch out for poor boot designs in lower priced options.

I haven't had to swap out my axles yet as I have only owned the truck since July, but you will want to focus on higher angle axles due to the lift. Otherwise you'll be going through boots, and if you don't catch the tears, possibly be rebuilding or swapping axles more than you would prefer. I think there is a sticky here that gives some suggestions for good higher angle axles.

Oh wait - Theos you are different than the OP. My questions were geared towards OP. I have no familiarity with CVJ axles so couldn't help there, sorry.

That quote sounds about right, I went with the extended travel inner boots also

They ARE reman'd OEM axles .. Same innerds.. That's why they want your axles back. The boots are a different material than OEM however

I'm happy with mine and their customer service was excellent!

I'm a little hesitant because you have a 1st Gen and I have a 2nd Gen. Sometimes quality varies between the two...
