So I'm about to replace all 4 ball joints. For the uppers I went to toyota. When I heard the price on the lowers I ordered proforged. I have them now and I noticed they didn't have any grease in them or even come with any at all. I called in and the sales guy said they are OEM style. He also said all the newer ball joints today are greaseless. He said it has a plastic shim in there or something and it is superior to the old models........returning that trash and buying the toyota ones.

According to the site this is for the 4WD. It maybe just the ball joint and not the entire bracket. If so all good to me - my local NAPA will press them in and out for $8. But, there is one that states for coil spring, and it looks to be the entire bracket, for $94.

It looks like that part number, "43330-39835" is for 5 lug trucks, not 6 luggers.

Not the right one for a 4x4 or a 6 lug Prerunner. Here is what my lower ball joints look like.

That's what mine looks like too, the lower picture. Funny how the site states both will fit in my Taco, as I am a 6 lugger. I am not excited to pay $94 for the lbj when other brands are in the $40's, but will think about it. I was planning on changing both sides out at the same time, but if I do go the OEM route, that price will force me to do them one at a time with some space between. I have an entire other vehicle I am tossing money into currently :(

Dang it seems like there are a few different ones....on camelback toyota parts is does not ask weather it's a 5 or 6 lug 4wd or 2wd. I am confused....but I am a noob also. Wha what are the correct part numbers for my 1998 4x4 TRD 5 speed? Thanks everyone.

I'm doing mine right now - actually have the truck jacked up.

    For my 1996 4x4 6 lug, I ordered 43340-39585 and 43330-39815.

I got them from Toyota Parts Zone. I have ordered a lot of stuff from there and have never gotten the wrong part - it's less confusing than Cameblback.

These look like the correct parts, but I will know more later this afternoon when the rest of the tools arrive and I finish the job.

I was also pleasantly surprised that they came with all new bolts, castle nuts, and cotter pins included in the package.

***Follow up: yes, these are the correct parts for my truck.

I wonder if you could press out the bj on the old part (6 lug), press out the bj on the 5 lug part, and have it pressed into the bracket for the 6 lug. Way cheaper than buying the entire thing. They are clearly a bit different bjs, but I wonder to what extent. Is the 6 lug variety "heftier"?

So apparently 555 is just MOOG.....Low range off-road is kind of misleading about that. Has anyone used their parts?

555s don't have the zert for grease. They are tapped for it but you have to add them. Otherwise the same.

I'm running 555 ATM cause it is all I could get local. Bought OEM ones to replace them already. Only had 1000 miles on them I bet.

    OEM or nothing for these

Monte's were OEMs but also had over 100K on them.

I got my Toyota lower ball joints in today. The joint is loose enough for me to move it around with minimal effort. I thought these things were supposed to be too tight to move? I mean I saw a video and I swear the guy said that and the pro forged ball joints I returned were like that. Anybody have this with their OEM lower ball joints?

OEM fan boys plug your ears - I just ordered Moog. I read the spec and it seemed legit to me, so went ahead and ordered that. I am in no way doing any intense wheeling or any kind of rock crawling. In fact it will probably be some time (as in next Spring at the earliest) before I even take it anywhere requiring 4x, so I should not be stressing that lbj much. Easier for me to eat $49 right now than $100, as I also need 4 struts for my Camry. Bad.

Next Spring if I think the Moog are too worrisome, I'll go OEM.
