so who has the best and most complete troubleshooting and repair manuals for our trucks?

    chiltons
    clymers
    Haynes
    or others

im asking because some manuals assume a lot and expect you to already know things while others give it to you as though you have never done it before and then some manuals skip over a lot of stuff and just deal with common issues and maint related stuff without getting into serious repair stuff like engine rebuilding.

I don't want to buy a bunch of them but if that's what it takes ok, I just want to buy the "right" manuals and not get a manual dedicated to routine maint and it not have much in it about repairs and troubleshooting stuff

yes I have the FSM download but its not that easy to navigate so a book could be handy to have, plus the book you can take out to the truck while you are working on it

Next best thing to FSM is Haynes. I have both.
The Haynes is ALWAYS in the truck.

It's the most expensive of them all, but if you want the BEST...buy the OEM manual(s) for your truck.

    http://www.helminc.com/

I've owned and used these on other vehicles, and if you want COMPLETE information, i.e., step-by-step, spoon-fed style WITH high quality illustrations and/or pictures...these are the best. They're the same ones the dealer mechanics refer to that have torque specs, etc., etc.

    AldataDIY.com

They have every manual that you can think of. It is electronic, cost about $30 for the first year then about $9/year after. Works great with the tablet.

I just looked at ALLDATAdiy.com and it looks questionable to me. There's no way of seeing if the information is accurate or if it's some shit written on the back of a cocktail napkin.

You can't e-mail them to ask them questions UNLESS you're already subscribed. That's lame.

I tried that. It wants to look up a phone number...which has to already be on record.

I like my subscriptions to aldata. Here is a couple of diagrams that I quickly copied to the computer.

I just grabbed anything so you could get an idea on how detailed the diagrams are.

The FSM is what I use 95% of the time supplement buy how-to vids.

The secret to the FSM is using the HTM index index file at the top level of the folders after you download it. It is filled with links, and you can ctrl +F to find key terms, and then it will link you to specific folder files. After I find what I need, I print it out, and am gradually compiling hard copies as I go, completed with scribbled notes, highlighted torque values, and coffee and grease stains.
