To to answer no they don't fit with the brackets provided because they are made for a 2nd gen, I might... get the chance :fingerscrossed: to modify or just design a new bracket system for the 1st gen bed.

Here we go, 1st a few things, I do have fab equitment, so I can make custom brackets. But I want to try and use basic tools and small store bought items so anyone can do the mod.

1st fitment: fits great length wise. But needs to be recessed a little bit near the fender side.

    Below(not mounted)
    IMG_0960.jpg

    IMG_0961.jpg
Bracket on left: needs to adjusted to the left a few notches, so I plan on grinding those off and relocating them.

Bracket in the middle is mounted on the wall of the bed and is connected to the bar with the yellow lever hereIMG_0962.jpg
You can see the back side of the bracket, that's what will lock it against your bed.

The bracket needs a few more inches off the wall to create a good locking fit

Hinge bracket: fits ok, I plan on bending the triangle piece back to meet with the wall for another anchor point.

Everything is mounted using self taping screws so we'll see how this goes.

Forgot to mention, with the soft topper I will have to modify the box as well

No only second gen and up, but currently working on modifing the mounts to work for a 1st gen.

I'm almost done, running into a few issues finding the correct back spacing for the lock mechanism.

But so far everything is great, the box will fit within the bed so it should fit within a tonneau cover. Swings out nicely, the lock mechanism has a good tolerance to eliminate shaking, down side it fitment has to be on point.

Once I'm finished I'll post a video to fully explain everything.

    here's the final product

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc5BjPIELfM&feature=youtu.be

    Just to go over everything

    Items needed:
    -5X self taping screws
-4X 1/4 by 1 in hex bolt(washers, nuts to match)
    - 1.25inX12in (1/8 thick) steel bar
    -grinder
    -drill

    Hinge bracket before
    IMG_0965.jpg

Bend it to get another anchor point.

    IMG_0969.jpg
I just threw it in a vise and bent it till I got a good angle be sure check figment after each bend.

Grind of hardware, get new hardware move bracket to the left one notch.
    IMG_0963.jpg
    IMG_1019.jpg

Now mount the box test, swinging motion

Remove the locking mechanism from original mount. See below IMG_0961.jpg

Set locking mechanism in locking location on box, swing the box in and out to give you a general idea of the new bracket location. IMG_1020.jpg

Use 1/8 bar and Bend in a vise to create basic handle shape, you want the locking mechanism to be mounted approx 2.25 inch away from the wall of the bed.

Drill hole in bracket for lock mechism, and self tapping screws

Connect lock mechanism to bracket. Then connect lock mechanism to locking point in case. Swing in and out to find your mounting location. As you can see I got Sharpie every where haha , check your location mutlpie time before you drill. End result
    IMG_1021.jpg

The location mechanism does have slot so adjust the vertical position if need be

    test make adjustments and enjoy.

*If you have a Softtopper you will have to modify the tool box to get decent fitment.

    Great idea. Are they lockable?

The lid is lockable. But when you bend the plate to get the extra mounting point, on the 1st gen bed you do lose the ability to lock the full case to the bed.

You can always fab something up.
