I was just curious what everyone prefers out of the 1st gen tacoma or the 2nd gen. I think most would say whatever they have but i figured i would ask. I have a 1st gen but like the 2nd gen better in my opinion.

I've only had my 1st Gen for a couple months now. I was specifically looking to buy a clean 1st gen Tacoma, it took me a while to find the right one. I like the smaller size of the 1st Gen and the styling better. Seems like none of the manufacturers make a compact truck anymore (except Ranger) they have all gotten bigger, more of a mid size. Like I said, I like the smaller size. I rarely carry more than 2 people, so interior size was not that important.

    getting there....
i traded my 2nd gen(06 prerunner) in for an first gen(04 trd 4x4), and i like my 04 alot better than the 06 i had. i like the power of the 4.0 that was in my 06, but overall....the first gen is just better as far as im concerned.

I have had both a 1st gen and now a 2nd gen. The only thing I wish the 2nd gen had was a steel bed with real tie downs. I line-xed my 1st gen and loved it. I worry the composite bed isn't as forgiving as the steel. I did like the simplicity of the first gen.

Combine the two of them....and that'd be the ideal tacoma!!!

The ruggedness of the 1st gen
The metal bed of the 1st gen
The tried & true suspension (from the factory) of the 1st gen
The heavy duty tailgate of the first gen

    AND put it with

The bigger size of the 2nd gen
The Access cab doors (LOVE those things)
The 2nd gen styling / looks(it's grown on me)
The 4.0L engine, towing package, power outlet and all the neat added features
The LSD of the 2nd gen
The colors of the 2nd gen

I wouldn't trade my truck for a first gen period :p Sure they're still great trucks, but I absolutely love my truck.
