I have a leaky tank, I see I should have removed the box to make life easier. Any idea how to remove this connector? Mine is a 2002, so supposed to be the same tank, if yours is not a regular cab.

    Thanks for any help.

    Don,

Not sure what connector that is. I didn't really mess with my stock tank too much. I pulled my pump when I upgraded with the supercharger, but that connector doesn't look like anything I messed with. I don't think my Haynes tear down and rebuild manual will tell me much but I will check.

Thanks, nothing in the Haynes, I have one. I got it low enough to get it where I could see it and clean it off and it came apart this afternoon.
    Thanks,

    Don

That'd be eight 5 gallon cans.

I like the idea. Maybe a smaller tank that would tuck up under would be better. I don't like the way it hangs so low. Come off a rock or a ledge and the tanks is the 1st thing to hit...

um what? do you know how many trucks come with a tank back there from the factory? how many suvs come with tanks in the back from the factory?

it is more then safe back there. and like he said, the pinto thing was more of a too long of a bolt that would pierce the tank in a collision.

    Check the TTORA Garage Section....
Impressive job...only improvements is to box the rear frame, add aluminum plates to protect the tank from rocks or a rear end crash...and maybe air bag suspension. Great job...on my favorites's list.

For those concerned with clearance issues the late 80's early 90's ford rear gas tank is roughly the same width and length, but is only 8" deep vs. 13" with the suburban. If I find that I have issues with the suburban tank then I will yank it and throw in the ford.

Now I like that idea. How many gallons is that Ford tank?

Not a 100% but I think its in the 18-19 gallon range. I had a 1990 460 F250 back in high school and if I remember correctly that is what it was.

^That would be more my size for a reserve tank. Putting another taco tank on the passenger side would be neat.

I gave the passenger side tank some thought but I didn't want to try and reroute my exhaust down the center and possibly in the way of the driveline. I'm sure it could be done, almost anything is possible if you have the time. Seemed a little easier since the space in the back was open and several older style trucks such as the ford commonly put gas tanks there.

19 gallons and the filler tube is on the correct side.

After a week of driving around things seem to being doing well. Only problem I've had is a small siphon issue between the tanks. Going to have to put a check valve in the line or possibly vent the rear tank more. It's pretty neat to be able to just hit a switch and keep going though.

My deavers came with an R and L on the springs and I assumed that it was from the drivers perspective so I have the L on the side with the gas tank and the R on the passenger side. Problem is my taco lean has been exaggerated to the extent of 2" higher on the passenger. Did I put them on the wrong sides? Anybody dealt with this before?
