My passenger side axle is stuck in the diff housing. Ive tried beating it out, prying it out, and pressing it out. Any other tricks i can try to get it out? The snow is flying and i need my truck back.

I always had best luck by making sure the axle was coming straight out of the housing when I pried it out. Like if any of it was not perfectly in line it was a PITA to get it out.

Usually I just have my lower control arm on a jack, the spindle out of the way and a 2x4or so between the LBJ and shaft to level it out. Then it pries out much easier.

edit: it's simple but I had hell with one one time till I remembered this.

I used a big crowbar to pry them out on both of mine and they popped out easily. A big screw driver isn't stout enough.

I actually removed the shaft and housing from the diff. 20 ton press would not take it out. I think i may just have to get a new housing and everything. Such a pain in the ass.

Snap/lock ring hell bit down on it. Betcha that internal ring is welded between the two,,now.

    A fistful of bucks,,but fixable.

Pry out,, easy slide hammer out. Never hammer in with great force. A few teaser loosening taps maybe,,then pry out. Very limited space in there and it can be a real knucklebuster,,almost better to pull it out at the start,,before you start if your after axles or seals anyway.

They usually pry right out,,you got a extra special one.

I think I did get a special one. Then again everything on this truck has been special. I guess I'm gonna hunt down parts. Hopefully it's not too spendy.

edit: I cant even find those parts. Maybe just a used diff might be easier.

If you do go to a u-pull-it yard, I would keep my core until the new/used unit rolls down the road. Make sure you snag the right gear ratio. At minimum I would change out the axle seals once it's on your worktable.

Kinda weird that little lock ring holding it in would cause so much BS, unless its gotten so hot its now turned into a ridge, or expanded out on the ends of ring causing it to "lock" itself on both sides of the groove it sets in, did you try getting 2 pry bars on it so theres equal pressure when prying out ?

By the sounds of it,,and 20 ton presses involved,,a end of that ring (or both) popped out and then got drove between the 2 locking grooves on each side.

Metal wedge drove between. It might be a 30-50 ton press to separate what will be basically junk once apart now. Apparently, that ring material is rated above 20 tons.

Regardless, something evil happened that shouldn't have.

Years ago I had a 78 Corolla that had a axle bearing go bad,,and I got the sideways snap ring as the axle started out, but I was able to slide hammer it apart and it came apart pretty easy even tho it was fubar'd.

I've tried two pry bars and a slide hammer at the same time. It just doesn't want to move. I'm gonna see if I can find a bad diff for cheap and just use the part I need.
