Shifter gets hot

    used to have - 99 2.4L I4 5 lug & 04 prerunner v6
    since both were low then im sure that solved your problems because low fluid levels alone will increase heat but even more so, old fluid increases friction and doesn't lubricate as well so it gets hotter even when at the correct levels.

    you manual has the mileage chart for how often to replace the fluids

    I plan on asking the prior owner what interval he followed, if/when he changed the tranny/t-case/diff oils. I have only put 4k on it. Manual states 30k check, 60k change. 60k will probably be 7+ years if I don't have to rely on it as a main DD. Shifting seems much smoother with this Mobil 1 in it.

    So far so good, but then again it ran hot on me only like 3 or so times since i bought it in July so ??? Since it wasn't consistent it is hard to say. It seems to shift smoother though.
