The Stereo stays, just remove the bezel, then the bezel around the key, then drop the steering wheel if it adjusts, take off the bottom panel where the fuse box is then the speedometer bezel.4 screws and the speedometer part comes out....take off the 3 wiring clips and replace bulbs. then plug in the wires and test if replacing with LED's, they are one way only. if they don't work, turn those bulbs around. I had 3 screws left over.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
You shouldn't have to worry about taking the stereo out then. Good luck!

Well, you're kind of screwed because this thread is for 1st gen trucks. The dash in 2nd gens are completely different. I suggest finding a thread in the 2nd Gen subforum.

The LEDs I ordered from SuperBrightLEDs.com was the 194 bulb here. The most important part in what you choose is that it is a wide angle. There isn't much of a diffuser inside the instrument panel, so if you get a narrow beam LED, the brightness won't be even across the cluster.

If you compare solely based on lumens, this one looks disappointing, but for $0.79 a piece and at least as bright as the stock bulbs, I think this is a great solution. No need for blindingly bright LEDs (at least for me, who routinely turns all of the interior lights off at night using the dimmer).

How many do you need to buy?

Anyone try multi-color or are you stuck with just one color?

I bought some cheap LEDs from Amazon and so far so good. The 74's kind of suck with hot spots but the dash lights are great.

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00877SL2M/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1418812777&sr=1&keywords=jtech5

10 for 8 bucks after shipping.

The picture shows it a little warmer than it is. Don't make the mistake I did and try testing the lights without plugging the dimmer switch back in. Definitely make sure to test them before you put the whole dash together so you know if you need to flip them.

How did you adjust it? I've got the same issue and couldn't figure out what was not working/contacting.

I Just used leds off of Amazon. they work good and haven't had any problems with them. make sure you check for polarity before you put the dash all back together.

Wow, lots of people doing this. Is it really this easy? I thought you needed to remove the whole dash, which looks like a freaking nightmare.

Its just pulling the clusters and soldering the led color you want. There a member or two on here that do this.

As long as you are comfortable taking apart the dash pieces then yes, it's pretty much that easy. Only about 12-15 screws/bolts that hold the bezel and cluster pieces in. plenty of write-ups and pictures of how to do this too.

Don't need to solder anything, buy the right replacement bulbs and plug them in :)
