In short, I hate the orange cluster and stereo/climate control backlights. Some are burnt out in the cluster so I have an excuse to change them. Has anyone here put a different color light back in instead of the OEM orange? I am thinking either blue, green, or blacklight if I can get it. Let me see what you all have.

I replaced the 4 main bulbs in the instrument cluster with red LEDs. Matches close enough to the rest of the truck.

So, for what you want to do, just pick the color your want for the instrument cluster. As for the other bulbs, have fun - it's about $1 per LED and there is probably a few dozen if you actually take the stereo apart...

cluster bulbs are #194. I believe the hvac bulbs are a NEO4x. The little lights for the auto shifter and misc are a 74.

I need to take other pics but this was during the install. I had to adjust the #3 metal contact plate cause it was loose (that's why light is out).

White looks pretty damn good also.

The LEDs I bought from Superbrightleds.com dim no problem. They even fully turn off like the original bulbs did when you turn the knob all the way.

    ^^this

How bad? There is no effort at all....after you pull your dash apart and get the cluster out. Swapping the bulbs takes seconds after that.

Test before you put everything back together. If an LED doesn't light up, turn it around.

Without checking the other linked thread really quick, when you say pull the dash does that include the stereo or just the dash above the steering wheel? I'd be interested in changing my bulbs, but I have pulled out my stereo so many times doing wiring and whatnot that I get tired of having to pull it out and put it back together....

I just recently replaced the 4 main cluster bulbs behind the speedo/etc. Disassembly of the dash, following two separate walkthroughs, was unclear at best but fairly simple, only needing a couple different screwdrivers & 10mm socket. All of the securing bolts are pretty spread out, so if something wont budge, its probly still screwed in. Just start at the radio and work your way down and out. I only broke the two push in clips on the sides of the cover piece way below the ash tray, and somehow still had a screw leftover when put back together. Took me about 1-1.5 hours to disassemble going pretty slow and trying not to break anything.

Think it depends what you want to do. If you want to do both, then yes you will have to take apart both. This is my case and I want to do both but am not sure how much different the process is on 2nd gens to first gens.

Probably would just be the dash behind the speedometer. So if I didn't have to remove the stereo to do that it would be awesome
