So my truck came with a stupid afraid intake system.

I want to go back to a stock box but they are limited in my area and the prices are rich. With the limited supply of them I'm just curious if the box from a 3.4l 96 4runner is the same?

the airbox looks the same and so does the tube but the MAF placement/bracket(?) is different. 96-98 have it located on the top of the tube and 99-04 have it on the fender side.

How come you are opposed to running that tube? I assume the 'system" is just a tube, some sort of shield and a filter correct? As long as you run a good filter(you can get any brand of your choice that would fit right on there) you could just keep that set up and save some $.....

Nat the thing picks up way too much dirt. I clean it once a every couple weeks. It's black.

I ended up buying the 4 runner intake box and it bolted right in

Was it getting by cause of the ariaid filter or getting into the system through places else where because of the aftermarket pieces(crappy fitment on components)???

The filter because it only has a Shield around it I would.never run a aftermarket setup unless it was fully closed system if you are actually going offeoad. And they don't add any hp just a bunch of noise.
