What's up guys? Sorry if this has been mentioned a million times but I can't find a clear answer on the issue I'm having.

I have a 2003 tacoma 4x4 v6 and have noticed lately that I'm experiencing a delay or hesitation when I accelerate after slowing down. For example I'll be slowing down to turn on a street and when I hit the gas normal driving it takes a second for the throttle to respond. Is it the tps sensor? Drivetrain related? If I mash the gas pedal it doesn't do it as much. Any feedback would be great!

    Thanks guys!

'03 was the first year for throttle by wire, IIRC, but not on all models tho. That didn't start til '04.

Do you have an actual throttle cable between the pedal and the throttle mechanism on the throttle body?

I bought the truck a few months ago and did the fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve, spark plugs. Replaced drivetrain fluids. Oil change. Intake looked cleaning. When doing the plugs I removed the air intake and the throttle body was spotless. Truck drives better now then when I bought it. (Currently 103000 miles).

I'm not the best when it comes to diagnosing problems. I'm hoping it's something stupid and cheap lol

I have had the exact same problem with my 04 Tacoma. Were you able to discover what was wrong with it? We have replaced o2 sensor, air filter, etc... and it's still inexplicably hesitating while the gas pedal is being pushed down.

O4 Tacoma with the 3.4 L here. This sounds like a problem I had and it was the TPS had a flat spot worn in resistor where the arm wipes on the resistor.

The fix was easy and cheap . Write up is here http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/163262-bad-throttle-lag.html

The short version for the TPS fix is to have ignition off and push the accellerator pedal fully thru 100 times. If it is the TPS they get a worn spot on older trucks where the engine throttle usually sets. For instance at 2500 RPM. Pressing the pedal repeatedly full stroke smooths out the worn spot. My truck went thru this at 90000mi and after moving the pedal 100 times its been good thru 112,000 mi without repeating.
