Wow! Yeah, my truck took a beating in back and it might have folded in half if the bed was plastic. Thanks for pointing that out.

Shelf Life, it was weird that the driver's airbag didn't deploy. (I had the passenger airbag turned off [key on the dash]). The trooper at the scene said bags don't deploy with rollovers, but I don't think I rolled over, I flipped over.

Don't know yet. I think I'm getting retail value from my insurance.

Anybody in Texas want to sell theirs? ;)

Glad you made it out alive yet alone free from major injuries. Good luck finding another good quality used Tacoma at a decent price. I tried and ended up buying new...

flip is considered roll I think. no flat/direct impact. there might be something that tells it not to deploy based on gyro readings?

also the front bumper doesn't look that "impacted" to trigger the airbags, just "moved" from a lower to higher position. my mom hit a deer head-on last month and the bags didn't deploy. it took out the grill and hood but the bumper cover was fine so no "trigger"

Hello, again. Thanks to everyone who posted to this thread.

Does anyone know if the 1st gen PreRunners with TRD package have an internal roll-bar? Someone offline told me there is an anti-roll bar built into the cab and this may have prevented the roof from caving in.

Did some research and found these 2 quotes:

    Wikipedia:
The Off-Road package has a (smaller diameter) roll bar...

    Car and Driver:
The TRD Off-Road package, which includes an electronic locking rear differential, Bilstein monotube shocks, a thinner front anti-roll bar for greater suspension travel, 16-inch alloy wheels with blocky P265/70 BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A tires, ...

The Car and Driver list above fits the description of my 2001 TRD, yet I never knew if it had a "front anti-roll bar".

From the pics I posted here, you can see the front of my roof was damaged, but not the back. Is there a "small diameter", internal roll bar in these tacos?

    Thanks for your posts.

My guess would be access cab "B" & "C" post are close enough together to strengthen the roof enough to have protected you. That is of course as stated my GUESS...

Sounds more like the sway bar if it's related to suspension travel. :notsure:
