So I have been looking for a 4door tacoma and I have noticed different shift patterns on the 4wd shifter. I assume it has to do with the different package from dealer, but can anybody explain to me what the difference is and pros and cons of each

Welcome to forum, there is a lot to learn here. Just make sure you get yourself a TRD double cab v6 4x4 sport with factor tow package and you'll fall in lurve.

    wrong forum :smack:

just like other 4x4s (reg/ext cab) they either had the push-button or J-shifter. might have to do with some package but there was no concrete decision on this

Manual hubs vs automatic? Both of mine have had manual hubs and the jshift.

Or do some models have full time 4wd and you only select hi/lo?

I have an 02 Doublecab V6 Limited and it has push button 4-HI and ADD with an Automatic. My 95.5 V6 Xtra Cab has a jshift and ADD with a 5-Speed.

Double cab tacoma's had either a push button 4x4 transfer case or a J-shift (rare). Manual j-shirt transfer cases are superior, due to that no electrical gremlins can interfere with it's engagement. The ADD part is the other weak (correctable) link...

just looked at my original windows sticker (yes I still have it :) ) and noticed the 4-Hi selector was an add-on option, possibly specified by the dealer when ordered or just random.
