I've searched the 1st gen forum here and I haven't found the answer I need. How do you take apart the SR5 lighted cigarette lighter to remove it?

Also, I just bought my 96 Tacoma 4x4 3.4 5 speed pickup, and the cruise control light comes on, but it won't set cruise. Is it common to have an issue with the control on the steering wheel, or is there a clock spring in behind the steering wheel like the other newer vehicles have?

    Thanks.

You do realize it can be used as a power outlet for charging stuff as well?

Yes I do. I want to take out my regular cigarette lighter and install the lighted SR5 model, but I need to know how to disassemble the SR5 one I picked up with a grey dash panel, so I can install it into my tan dash panel.

Twist the internal metal socket in the plastic outer piece and then push it out.

Check to see that your clutch pedal is returning all the way up to the top. If not, it's not engaging the cruise control switch.

The ash tray is to the right of the only cigarette lighter on my 96.

Thanks Darryle that worked. Thanks Madjik Man that was the issue. Does anyone know if the wiring for the SR5 map light/rearview mirror is already located in the roof between the visors? I know the older 89-95 Toyotas already have wiring to swap over to a tach cluster and add the dash clock, but this is my first Taco, so I wasn't sure about the rearview mirror wiring?

Thanks again for all the help.

Is the wiring plugin for the SR5 ignition key cylinder light ring there under the dash, or do I have to wire it into some place special?

Look for this plug above the drivers kick panel, it goes to the dome light and 3rd brake light, I used it for my ignition ring light
