Not true. Lug centric wheels have tapered lug nuts and Hub centric have straight lug nuts. Tacoma's have Hub centric Aluminum wheels.

It's very simple. If your lug nuts are TAPERED they are lug centric. If they are STRAIGHT SHANK then they are hub centric. Just picture it, how can the wheel be centered from the lugs if the are not tapered lug nuts????

    really?

    false info?

im with chris... my stock lugs were tapered... every set of wheels i have run on my truck has been tapered...

every 1st gen truck we have built at the shop was lug centric...

just recently someone on TW mounted hub centric wheels on a first gen and ran into issues and had to return the wheels...

    JUST SAYIN

    hahahahaha

Selling my 96 Tacoma to fund the FJ80 build up.
My OE Aluminium Tacoma wheels were hub centric.

They used standard Toyota mag lug nuts (Like these).

After I removed the lug nuts the front wheels were still bonded / frozen to the truck by the tight Hubcentric fit. I then had to thread back on a few lugs and kick the wheels to dislodge them before removal.

A lot of the confusion has to do with the fact that wheels (in and of themselves) aren't hub-centric or lug-centric. It's the **fitment** of the wheel to the hub that's hub- versus lug-centric.

If the wheel's centerbore fits up closely on the hub so the wheel is centered on the hub 'as is' (without the lug nuts being threaded), then it's a hub-centric fitment.

If the wheel's centerbore is larger than the hub, so that the wheel isn't centered until the lug nuts are threaded on, then it's a lug-centric fitment.

A wheel may have a lug-centric fitment on a smaller hub but fit up hub-centrically on a larger hub matching its centerbore.

It less confusing to think of it in terms of 'hub-centered' versus 'lug-centered'.

The lug nut style doesn't determine the type of fitment, and the fitment type doesn't determine what type of lug nuts are used. The lug nuts need to be the type suited to the wheel's lug holes, regardless of the fitment type.

Having said that ... Tapered-face style lug nuts are arguably better suited to lug-centric fitment because the tapered mating surface helps guide the wheel into a centered position and keep it there based on the lug nuts alone.

All 1st generation OEM Tacoma wheels are designed for a hub-centric fitment.
