Its time to replace my ball joints but I'm struggling with the 14mm bolts that holds the lbj to the wheel hub. Using a ratchet, they dont move even i put all my power in, looks like they are jammed and the bolt head its a little bit rounded, allowing the socket to spin some mm instead of turn the bolt. i'm afraid to break the bolt head. Should i use a breaker bar, or go for the air ratchet?

Go get some liquid wrench and absolutely drench the bolts in it - from the top to the bottom. Go ahead and put a breaker bar on your socket and try to turn it. If you strip the bolt, go to any parts store and get this kit:

Don't worry about stripping the bolts as the new LBJ should have new bolts with it.

    Good luck.

If you have access to heat, its your friend. As is an impact.

Are you using a 6-point socket? Those grip better and are stronger.

6point socket is the way to go with hi torque applications, especially on the suspension parts. Glad you got it off. Impact would have been my next step.

1st gen LBJ bolts are notorious for snapping off/stripping/coming loose/etc: , they're seldom hard to fix but a pain in the ass all the same, they maybe cemented in there with Loctite..
