Just stumbled across this thread. Couldn't walk away without a little cpr. The things i hate most. Shitty short seats (im 6'1), no factory s/c=ehh power, i seem to go through front brakes like crazy and i dont have a heavy foot (tundra swap soon) no 4wd (my fault for buying a god damned prerunner, also HOPEFULLY soon to change), squeaky dash, shit gas mileage, craptastic headlights. I guess im lucky cause my frame is fine (good thing about cali, unless you're directly on the coast) did i mention it needs more power!!! For all that though, i love my baby. She has been very good to me. Never failed, except when i try to 4 wheel, FUCKING prerunner. I will keep her til she dies, then just give her a new heart. Did i mention she needs more POWER!!!!

same here, mine looks to have led a rough life before I got it and trying to keep it road worthy has been a non stop battle for the last two years. Every time I fix something and think "ok, should be good for a while now" seems like the very next day somethin pops up. Its never ending, I bought the truck for a grand knowing it needed work but had no idea it would be this big of pos. I'm probably into it north of $6k now and thats just in maintenance, haven't had the time or money with all the problems to even get to the fun stuff other than an add a leaf and spacer lift. Thought about selling the pile, but no way id get anywhere near out of it what I've put in so I'll just keep praying that the cycle will end. Its a fun little truck for the hills and gets 20+ mpgs, but after what I've been through i kinda wish I woulda went with a jeep. I hate jeeps, but even if a jeep had all the problems my tacos had it wouldn't have cost near as much to fix.

Nothing. This vehicle is very simple to work on and parts are readily available. What is a problem is easily fixed with a little knowledge and time.

The factory clock position sucks ass. The steering wheel blocks it perfectly

I don't like how my 2013 makes a really annoying humming noise in high crosswinds. when I went to the dealership they said it was the grill, replaced it and still makes the noise in winds! I've seen some threads on here about the windshield being the problem. hopefully next time they can figure it out while it's still under warrantee.

arb bumper, 3 inch spacer lift (it needs to go!), 3 inch OME lift,
Sound deadening...seriously...would a little foam been that hard to hard? And yeah that frame rust! The good news is as long as you pay attention you can preempt it before it gets crazy.

Away with you 2nd gen blasphemer! Oh and don't worry...that 70s trans am gets better mileage than us too... :(

Of course we would. I'm going ham on my truck.

It happens brother. I just got my tires swapped and was so happy but then I found out my axle seals and cv joints are leaking as well. I've already got 3 grand just in repairs. 1200 in new tires, and around the same for my new OME suspension prior to install that should show up tomorrow.

    1. No factory clock installed except as a part of the Entune stereo.
    2. No outside weather temperature gauge. Temperature gauge is tied to a HD radio station and visible on the Entune stereo. This isn't very accurate.
    3. Center console lid opens to the side and not towards the rear. Try accessing from the passenger side..SUCKS!
    4. No manual key lock on passenger door.
    5. Key FOB is separate from the key, not an all-in-one.
    6. Rear seats in a double-cab are not built with risers. Instead, the seats are installed on a platform which is part of the body. So for seat removal, you don't have a flat floor.
    7. The bed side-rail caps are higher than the front rail.

New 2015 SR 5 DCLB, it may seem a bit petty but I miss an outside temp gauge instead of relying on Entune weather. My older junk car had one and it was kinda nice. I plan on installing an aftermarket gauge. It would still be nice to have it stock.....

    1. It takes money from my wallet to spend on itsself
    2. The leafs suck a big one
    3. The giant hunk of plastic toyota calls a "bumper"

But all in all I have fallen in love with my 2000 taco and wouldnt trade it for anything..... except a shelby gt500, thats my weak spot:eek:

You don't know road noise until you get in a honda crv 1st gen. My tacoma has good noise insulation, but yeah it could be better. The thing I hate are the seats. I keep looking in ebay for a set limited seats.

I don't get the hate on the seats...I've driven a lot of different types of cars from 60s muscle, caddies, sports cars, an accord and even a freaking family van...If anything other than my old 04 accord the seats on the taco are amazing.

Im 6'1", and the headrests come up to maybe the base of my head, when extended. The backs are to short for me. Thinking of swapping them out for 2nd gens. But yes they are better than say a 67 mustang, or my old datsun 510... Now that was a car i had nothing bad to say about, except the seats!! Shoulda kept it!
