hello everyone, I recently noticed my muffler tailpipe connection was rotting out and was hoping to wait until spring to fix it, but after this weeks snowstorm i maybe did one two many donuts and now my truck sounds like a shitty civic, and i can only turn the radio up so loud...So im wondering how to go about fixing this. can i sawzall the old muffler off and clamp on a new one? should i get a new tailpipe too? I was going to go with stock stuff but if anyone wants to convince me otherwise Im all ears. gracias amigos

why not just pay a muffler shop
and have them weld on an oem muffler ?

It might possible to sleeve it...
    but I wouldn't.

the factory muffler cost is ridiculous IMO
and has no real advantage unless it is stainless.

Stainless will endure more corrosion and possibly
survive longer... But will be more costly for sure.

Galvanized/coated mufflers will endure corrosion acceptably
tho' not likely survive the rest of your lifetime.

If you want a little sound out the tail pipe...

    a Flowmaster does it.

if you want it to run a little quieter...
    a Masterflow would be better.

    If you don't care...

just have the muffler shop weld up the cheapest oem
    muffler they have in stock.

should be able to get a shop
to weld one up for less then $ 100
    I'd think

Bosal makes a factory bolt on replacement. I got mine for 120 I think. Unbolt the existing pipe and muffler assembly and bolt on the new one. I think I got it on autoplicity. Seems to be made to exact OEM specs, it looks OEM and it's quiet as hell

My flowmaster 40 has a bad drone after 2500 rpm, I wouldn't recommend it. However, it does keep me below that 2500 point so if you're looking for fuel economy....

I know its an old thread but adding for comparison was just quoted at a DC area small muffler shop $400 for relacement with a Walker "OEM", seems pricey to me even for DC, guess Midas or a chain shop would be even more $. Just ordered from Rockauto for $116 with 3-day shipping, I'll save the $280 and install myself.
