so this is where i'm at...

i cut off one of the end bars:

    DSCN0131_8596fa989a30dcf34f2e87afa43b22cce0a32c11.jpg

make sure you cut the horizontal bars like this, not through the horizontal bar:

    DSCN0132_9cc87ac36d14eb79d3b952ab31148ecaefd76ac1.jpg

then i started trimming the bar i removed to fit the middle hole where i want to put it. make sure you start off a good bit bigger than the hole and trim down bits at a time so it fits. i also trimmed out the middle 3 bars so its easier to work with.

i'm forking on the bondo now on the 2 side bars before i try attatching the middle piece. more pictures tonight!! :D

better go get back with the flock...

    jk :D

i was originally gonna go with a grillcraft grill but funds were low so i tried to think of something else i could do to make it more unique without spending too much and this is what i came up with... we'll see if it was a good idea

if not i can just rip it all out and put a mesh grill in :p

right now the only progress is filling in the side bars with bondo... haven't attatched the insert yet.

this is my first time working with bondo and had family up this weekend so progress was slow this weekend.

i'm hoping to have the side bars filled in nicely and the insert attatched by the end of the night so i'll try to get some pics up later if that happens...

but game 6 for the pens is tonight so that might delay things even more... we'll see

would you say it was hard or just a little tricky? the bondo/ fiberglass that is. and ya im a gator as some may have seen.. but i was thinking of putting a gator head where the toyota logo would be on the mesh grille.

    ^^^ me??

i'm not working with fiberglass... never have

    just using bondo

the trick to this i found is doing thin layers at a time... dries quicker and you don't get cracks later

looks like its going to be harder than i thought... the bars at the ends seem to get slightly narrower and set at a slightly different angle than the bars in the middle so cutting one out and trying to put it in the middle doesn't line up perfect.... i guess i better get another tube of bondo :frusty:

so i epoxied in the middle insert and as you can see the middle bar is lined up (but a tad narrow) :

    DSCN0135_f67c25d04cdfe8d4eef09c51280824ff599f9ae6.jpg

... but the horizontal bars are crooked:

    DSCN0136_eb3069a14f83f6f64d9f165623b5989a549a0db7.jpg

so i'll be cutting behind the bars at the top of the ones on the left and the bottoms of the ones on the right so i can bend them into line and epoxy them into place...

    DSCN0136_eb3069a14f83f6f64d9f165623b5989a549a0db7.jpg

it is extreme enough that you can notice when looking at it head on so this should fix it enough so that you can only tell if you eye it up from the top or bottom... which you can't do when its mounted :D
