So I bought a a replacement Tailgate as mine was all bent to hell and wouldn't close properly anymore. Just decided to bedliner the enitre thing rather than deal with trying to paintmatch (although my truck's black so it wouldn't be too hard).

Anyways, I purchased a piece of diamond plate to reinforce the new tailgate but I'm stumped at how I can fasten the piece so that I can remove it readily. any one have any ideas. I've played around with the thought of predrilling all my mounting holses and then somehow "gluing" barrel nuts in place on the the tailgate with the lip of the nut on the inside... any better options? I didn't want to use self drilling metal screws as I'm sure they would rattle loose over time. Input would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You could use the self tapping screws in conjunction with an epoxy to keep the screws from 'rattling loose.'
    Just my .02.
Why would you want to readily remove it?

I think relentless fab makes a tailgate protector, might want to check out his design and see if you can make something similar.
