Hi, I'm looking for any input on a good rebuild kit with quality parts. There's so many different ones to choose from and this is my first toyota engine build so not sure who's got quality parts and who doesn't.

check with bama or some of the other certified techs here, they would be your best source for accurate info on the best kits and the ones to stay away from

Thanks Krakatoa will do. I'm having to rebuild due to a plug stripping out in cyl #5, knocked the electrodes off and dinged up the piston enough to rub on the cyl wall other than that Everythings been fine. The trucks got about 220k on it and I know they can go quite a bit further but instead of just fixing the piston and the head and throwin it back together and seeing how many miles I figure I'd try to do a thorough rebuild for (hopefully) longer life down the road.

windows spelling auto word correct strikes again, the best part is, if you spell a word wrong, it doesn't always fix it, but it always wants to change the words you type on purpose to something else like jibberish lol.

if the piston was dinged up enough to mark the cylinder wall I suggest you start with a donor block from the salvage yard that has good cylinders to start with so you just need to hone them. so many times I see what doesn't look like much turn into a situation where the whole block needs machining because of out of round and deep scratches that "didn't look like much" at first.

this method would also let you keep yours running as a DD while you redo the engine, even if you have no need to use the messed up engine there is no point in reusing it at this point since its cheaper to start with an undamaged block and you might get good heads for it at the same time. hell you might just find a good running engine as-is you can just drop in and go.

bottom line is I wouldn't invest the money into a complete rebuild unless I was starting with an undamaged block and heads.

Block and heads are at the machine shop mod referred me to(thanks again mod) we'll see what he says. I don't think it was bad enough to toss the block (merely a rub). I think worst case it will have to be bored .020 over. But like I said we'll wait and see what the machinist says
