I have a '99 taco v6, misfire on cylinder 5. The dealership wants to do a fuel system cleaning, including the injectors which will cost $200. If that fails to solve the misfire they recommend to replace the injector #5 ($200). Replace all the o-rings on the remaining 5 injectors ($200) and replace the 2 intake gaskets ($185). Does this make sense and justify in the procedure and cost? Feedback appreciated. Thanks

Note: prices are in Canadian dollars

Have they narrowed it down to a fuel misfire? You could tell them to swap the injector to another cylinder. When it follows the injector, then you know you need it replaced, not a stupid fuel system clean.

I would try using a good injector cleaner yourself before spending that much money. I use a bottle of teckron every 6 months.

they are just trying to make money off of you.

injectors are easy to take out, clean, and replace, there are videos all over youtube showing you how to do it, so do that to all of them and when reinstalling it, swap it to another cylinder and see if the problem returns, did it follow it to the new cylinder indicating a bad injector you need to replace

Did they diagnose that it is a fuel issue and not a spark issue?

That is robbery. They are using your money to find out what they don't know. Completely wrong! A complete set of OEM injectors is close to that $200. For one injector, they are bending you over.

Like said, switch around the injectors. Free diagnosis.

Thanks for the info guys. I took the truck to Napa and they just replaced the bad injector, o rings and installed new rear shocks (I supplied) for $165.00. My Taco is purring again!!
