Diff in lowering blocks and lifting blocks?

I'm asking this question cause their both the same size block, 3", same u-bolts and $40 cheaper. Whats the difference besides a different location?

 

I would assume you're referring to the suspension.

Lift blocks go inbetween the leaf springs & axle perch on trucks with the springs OVER (ontop) the axle tube. The 4WD & Prerunner trucks run with spring-over axle.

I'm not accustomed to the lowering culture.... so don't quote me on this. I'm just guessing.
I would assume the lowering blocks go inbetween the leaf springs & axle perch on trucks with the springs UNDER (below) the axle tube. The 2WD trucks with 5 lugs have the springs under the axle.

 

So how does it lower it?

 

There is no difference, same blocks can be used for lifting or lowering. If you want to lower 3", the blocks go between the rear leaf springs and axles.....hence shifting the rear axle up 3".

 

So how did you lower yours? Where did you put yours to lower it?

 

Jack up truck, put on jackstands (Under frame). Then put jack under rear end. Unbolt the u-bolts on each side, jack up rear end and insert blocks between leaf springs and axle mounts. Lower jack so rear end is resting on blocks, re-assemble with new u-bolts provided in kit. Jack up rear end again, remove jack stands from under frame, lower jack.....your done.

 

And that will lower it or raise it?

 

Bounce the rear end (from jack) and tighten u-bolts again. Then after a couple weeks, check the u-bolts one last time.

 

You have a Pre-runner, so the leaf springs are ONTOP the axle tube (Spring OVER axle).

Do some research on Spring Under axle conversions or flipping the leaf springs upside down - if you really want to lower it. It'll be tons of work.

You're better off selling it and buying another truck.

 

NO!!! I want to raise it. I just saw 3" lowering blocks for $47 with u-bolts and $7 shipping. and right next to them they had lifting blocks for $72?

 

That's a pretty large price difference between the two.

So, to be on the safe side....I wouldn't buy the lowering blocks.

You might want to compare the difference in the shape of the U-bolts between them. I'm gonna guess, the U-bolts are gonna be different (rounded and squared).

 

Have to see what bolts come with it. But thanks for the help.
